BASIC WAGE
DUNEDIN INCREASE. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The terms of a new industrial agreement between the Dunedin City Council and the General Labourers’ Union were discussed by the Council, and the agreement was confirmed. The agreement is of particular interest, since it provides for an increase in the basic wage from 2s 3d an hour to 2s 5d an hour, this representing an advance on the decision of the Arbitration Court.
In reply to a question, the chairman of the finance committee said that this rate would be higher than that in operation anywhere else, but he assured the council that there would be no noticeable demand made on the ratepayers. -(P-A.)
