‘ ‘THE SINGING MARINE. ’» In “The Singing Marine,’ ’ which is to be shown again at the Regent Theatre to-night at S o’clock, and dt matinee and evening performances to-morrow, Dick Powell has the part of a private in the Marines—a famous American corps—and one who can sing. His comrades put up a purse • to send him from the San Diego base, I where he is stationed, to New York in order to take part in a singing competition. The young Marine’s sweetheart, on her own account, also seeks to enter the competition, but fails to get away. The part of the girl is taken by Doris Weston, a lovely and talented newcomer to the screen. The young Marine scores a tremendous j success and it goes to his head. Spoil|ed by the adulation of innumerable women, and fawning of hanger-ons I who surround him, the lad forgets his comrades. He is, however, only on leave of absence from the Marines, and when, at the end of his furlough he is shipped with the rest of his company to China, he has a chance to redeem himself, which restores him to everyone’s good graces. A splendid cast surrounds Dick Powell in the gay song and dance feast, including Hugh Herbert, Allen Jenkins, Doc Rockwell from vaudeville, Jane Wyman and Veda Ann Borg.
