LOST OVERBOARD

PASSENGER PROM WAHINE. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. A message from the Wahine stated that a man w,as lost overboard at 9.40 o’clock to-night. Thu only description available is that the man was young, dressed in a grey suit and wearing a heavy overcoat. The steamer ran probably two miles before the occurrence was reported to the bridge. Captain Howie immediately turned the ship, circled the spot three times and had a boat prepared in readiness. The night was black, with rain, and a search was hopeless. After one hour the ship resumed her course.—(P.A.)
