TROUBLE IN SYRIA
GENDARMES FIRED ON.
(Received Wednesday, 12.10 p.m.) •' BEIRUT, Tuesday
Lebanese gendarmes surrounded several villages in the Shouf district, which are believed to harbour armed bands. While transferring several prisoners the gendarmes were fired on from a hill. Further arrests followed. Twelve rifles and a quantity of ammunition, which were confiscated, it is believed were being smuggled to Palestine.
