ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE

LADIES’ NIGHT. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Tlic brethren of the Loyal Masterton Lodge of Oddfellows last night entertained the ladies at a most enjoyable function in the cosy Oddfellows’ Hall. There was a very large attendance and a thoroughly successful gathering resulted, thanks to the splendid work accomplished by the men’s committee. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the brethren and they carried out the “kitchen job” with a capability that was emphatically demonstrated. The programme from start to finish was of such a character that everyone keenly appreciated it and voted the entertainment one of the most successful and enjoyable ever provided by the lodge. Visiting brethren were present from all parts of the district. All present thoroughly enjoyed the dancing to excellent music provided by Minilie’s Orchestra. Extras were played by Mrs Minifie and Messrs L. H. Hartley and Minifie. Mr B. Iveson was M.C., and the music for the songs and solo dancing was provided by Messrs Miller Hope and Mr Minifie.

The musical programme provided those present with items of a very high standard and encores were the order of the evening. “Pop Eve,, the Sailorman” (a splendid characterisation by Mr E. Grantham, who also gave several other most enjoyable and clever items),, having to respond to several encores. The dancing of the children was exceptionally good and delighted the audience, unusual skill being displayed by the performers. Those who contributed to the programme were Dan Davy, Sister Alma Davy, Noeline Graham', Sister Hazel Lock, Sister Norma Brown, Sister Joyce Lock, Dorothy Brown, and Messrs Ball, Greer and E. Grantham. During the evening Bro. Knowles, on behalf of the cricket team which won the junior championship, presented the lodge with a framed photo of the team, the gift being' suitably acknowledged by Bro. J. Harris, N.G. Bro. Harris also welcomed sisters and brethren from other lodges in the Wairarapa and assured them that the lodge greatly appreciated the fact that they had come such long distances to be present. Members of the visiting lodges suitably replied. A dainty supper was ■ provided by the brethren who waited on the ladies and did everything within their power to make the function a success. Bro. A. Bippon (secretary) is deserving of a special word of praise for the particularly able manner in which he carried out duties associated with the gathering. Many very old members of the lodge were present.
