THE GAME OF HOCKEY.
That the game of hockey is increasing in popularity in Masterton, and that the play is now of a very high standard, ivas demonstrated at Lansdowne on Saturday last on the occasion of the matches played there between the Wairarapa and Wellington men’s teams and the local ladies’ games. There Avas no fluke about Wairarapa’s win in the tAvo men’s contests, and the form produced by Wairarapa in both grades Avas a pleasing revelation to those avlio did not think the local teams were capable of providing such highgrade hockey. The large attendance, the enthusiasm, and the play generally must haA T e gladdened the hearts of those stalwarts avlio for many years haA r e Avorkecl hard in the interests of the game. If has been a strenuous task to boost along hockey in vieAV of the opposition of other sports, but both hockey associations have every right to feel gratified that their efforts are achieving Avorth-Avhile results. The scene at Lansdowne on Saturday was' an inspiring one to the hockey enthusiast, and emphasised the marked progress Avliich the game is making in the Wairarapa.
