The'- annual general meeting of tlie members of the Masterton A. and P. Association will bo held in the Association Room, Perry Street, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 7th August, 1935-

During the week-end a considerable amount of flying training was gone through at the Hood Aerodrome. The lower paddocks at the aerodrome are now being used, , as the improvements are now well under way on the other paddocks. At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society on Saturday a letter was received from the secretary of the North Island Conference of A. and P. Associations, stating that a resolution had been passed that the conference go into recess. This was a result of certain societies deciding to withdraw in favour of the Royal Society. The opinion was expressed that it would be a great pity for the conference to bo abandoned, even. tempoiarily. On the motion of the president if was resolved: “That this society is of the opinion that the conference should continue with whatever membership is still available.” A+ a meeting of the Masterton braneli of the Women Teachers’ Association, held at the Central School, Miss Shelton presided. The speaker for the evening was Miss Hnnliam, of the staff of St. Matthew’s School,, who spoke on her travels and studies in England and on the Continent. She carried her audience from place to place, introduced them to interesting personalities in the musical world and created the atmosphere of many another scene by her colourful descriptions and anecdotes. For those who had not bad the opportunity for travel, Miss Hnnliam H talk was a brief but vivid tour, and for others it was a happy revisitatmn to familiar places. A hearty vote of thanks to Miss Hanliam was accorded bv her delightful audience. Supper, provided by country members, concluded the evening.

The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa East Coast P. and A. Society was held at Carterton on Saturday, Mr G. .T ISFix presiding over an attendance of 10 members. The treasurer reported an overdraft at the Bank of New Zealand of £1046 13s Id. Mr Daysh mentioned the good work done by the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes), Mr Coates and Mr Allen. They ■were to be congratulated on the outcome of their mission in London. Sir Herbert E. Hart’s knighthood was the subject of appreciative comment and a letter of congratulation is to be forwarded from the society. A letter was received from the secretary of the Carterton Women’s Institute reciuesting permission to plant trees on Arbor Dav in the Carterton Showgrounds. It was decided to allow the institute to plant trees from the back of the tea rooms to the grandstand, it was reported that a special committee had met regarding the rebuilding of motor, sheds and it was decided, after ascertaining the cost of rebuilding,, confer with the motor traders. The nomination of Mr M. McLeod as a candidate for the electoral committee ot tne Meat Producers’ Board was confirmed. Two new members were elected. The Masterton branch of the Wairarapa High School Old Boys’ Association held a most enjoyable reunion m the Savage Club rooms on Saturday night. Mr E. K. Eastwood presided over a. large attendance of local and outside members. Messrs G. W. Hoiice J. W. Bird and H. P. Glenn, present masters at the school, were amongst those present. The gathering was canablv organised by the secretary, Mr E. M. Halse, and was a most successful occasion of its kind. ihe toast list was interspersed by community singing and vocal items by Mr V. Greer while opportunity was taken to renew old acquaintances and, oxchange experiences of post-school ciays. Following the toast of the ‘ Klll S ' proposed by the chairman, Mr A. b. McWhinnie proposed the toas„ ot tne “School.” The school song was then lustilv rendered and Mr G. W. Marine replied to the toast. “Masters, last and Present,” was proposed by Mi b. Hatch and replied to by Messrs J. W. Bird and H. P. Glenn. Mr D. H. Harris. secretary of the Wellington branch proposed the toast of “Kindred Associations,” Messrs A. Lang and H L. Martelli speaking m reply. Music for the community singing was played iy Mr A. Barnes.

In connection with the recent burglary at Martinborough it is understood that an arrest has been made by the police of a man at Wanganui. The Masiti wii .tumor Homing Pigeon Club held its annual meeting on Saturday last at the. Club Room, Albert Street. The subscriptions were fixed at 5s for old and young bird seasons combined. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr S. G. Liidemaiin for the use of his premises as a club room. Masterton Amusements, Ltd., entertained the children of the Whatman Home, Methodist Home and Sedgley Home at a special screening of “Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch” at the Regent Theatre on Saturday morning. The children thoroughly enjoyed the capital entertainment provided and grateful thanks are expressed to the company for its generous action in inviting the children. The Masterton Road Cycling Club held a 254 miles race on Saturday from Masterton to Grevtown and back. There were 17 starters and the results were as follow: —C. Osborne (scr.), 1; E. At the meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society on Saturday the financial position for the next show was reviewed by the president, rvho considered the outlook very hopeful. As things were improving it was expected that there would bo an increase in membersliip and lie was of the opinion that the canvass of Wellington and country districts which commenced to-dav, would bring a very satisfactory result.

The Wairarapa High School 6bl Hoys’ Association held a dance in the Municipal Social Hall on Saturday night and an enjoyable time spent. The hall was crowded with dancers, all of whom spent a thoroughly enjoyable time. Excellent music was supplied by Minifie’s Orchestra and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr R. E. Homes. The hall was attractively decorated in the school colours, those responsible being Messrs A. S. WeWhinnie, R. J. Smith, R. Richards. R. E. Barnes, E. M. liaise and A. Cohen. The supper arrangements were controlled by a committee in charge of Misses M. Hell and A. Moore.

The clothes drive carried out in Alasterton on Saturday afthrnoon by the Masterton Toe II group was highly successful, householders responding very generously to the appeal for clothing for distribution among the needy of the town. Valuable assistance in the collection of the parcels was given by Rovers, Scouts and several car owners. The articles collected will be distributed bv the Women’s Welfare League, the Plunket Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Thanks are expressed to those who left parcels for collection and to all who assisted with the drive.

Three nominations liavo been received for the two delegates required to renresent the Wairarapa district on the Electoral Committee of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, those nominated being Messrs J. M. Janies (Masterton), M. McLeod (Martinborougli), and A. Ross (Longbusli). A ■nostal ballot is therefore being conducted and the necessary ballot papers are being despatched, to every sheep owner of- not Electoral Committee will elect three producers’ representatives on the board, for which the following have been nominated: —Messrs H.
