SYDNEY, Sunday. New Zealand’s mystery horse, Supreme Court, figured in a scries of dramatic incidents yesterday. Unknown men forcibly took the horse from the Kensington stable of Albert Cain while Cain was on his way to Warwick Farm, and are alleged to have assaulted Mrs Cain, who attempted to stop them from removing the horse. Police subsequently found Supreme Court in stables at Randwiek. Finally a man, claiming to be attorney for the owner, took possession of Supreme Court.
A cable dated 7th January stated that the New Zealand gelding Supreme Court had been unable to race in Sydney, it was understood, because C. McDonell, who 'took him there, failed to obtain a trainer’s permit. The gelding was entered for recent events, but his nomination was rejected, though he was in charge of a licensed trainer, J. Cain. It was thought that the rejection was duo to a technicality, in that MeDonell’s name was given as trainer in the nomination form. The stewards, however, had given no official reason for the action. It was stated that endeavours were being made to sell Supreme Court in Australia. MALICIOUS ACT. RACEHORSE SHOT. BLENHEIM, This Day. The gelding Huntique, which won the National Hurdles last year, was found in a paddock near Waterlea racecourse yesterday, with a bone of his hind leg shattered by a bullet. The animal had to be destroyed. The manner in which the injury was sustained is a mystery but the empty shells of two .303 cartridges were found nearby.—(P.A.)
