POLITICAL SCANDAL
SENATOR’S ALLEGATIONS AGAINST POSTMASTER-GENERAL. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, Saturday. The first political scandal directly - involving one of President Roosevelt’s administrative assistants was threatened as a preponderantly Democratic Senate reluctantly voted to investigate the alleged connection of the PostmasterGeneral, Mr J. A. Farley, with contracts for the £1,250,000 Post Office at New York.
A charge was made by Senator Long, who, for four consecutive days, harangued the Senate, demanding that Mr Farley be ousted, from Cabinet and removed from the leadership of the Democratic Party. The substance of the charge was that the firm getting the post office contract- was under the control of Mr Farley’s brother-in-law, and Mr Farley himself holds a financial interest, and that the- contract was awarded the fir mover several lower' bidders.
A Senate resolution specifically directed the Public Works Administration to supply all records 'of the matter. Friends of Mr Farley said he is returning to Washington immediately to answer the charges.
