MEAT STRIKE
TROUBLIi IN BRISBANE
(Received Monday, 11.0 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day
The unions involved decided unanimously to the Brisbane abattoir strike until the Meat Industry Board consented to negotiate with them outside the Arbitration Court. The unions have called for volunteers to picket certain butchers ’ shops. Brisbane so far has not suffered a meat shortage, as the master butdhers are killing their own cattle and sheep, and, by drawing on export stocks, there is sufficient meat to supply the city’s requirements for three weeks.
A cable on Thursday stated:—The members of the three unions employed by the Brisbane abattoirs have decided to remain on strike until their demands for higher wages, shorter hours' and longer holidays are granted.
