POLICE RAIDS
ALLEGED BOOKMAXING. NEW PLYMOUTH. Sunday. A well-organised raid on alleged bookmakers was carried out throughout Taranaki on Saturday afternoon under the supervision of Inspector S. Rawlc, of New Plymouth. At Hawera, William Elder, the alleged occupier of the Arcadia Tea Rooms, Union Street, was arrested, after a raid on the premises, on a charge of alleged bookmaking. (. At Waitara, Ernest Alexander Johnson was arrested and charged with alleged bookmaking. At New Plymouth, Oscar Roycc Ulander, Ernest Robert Byers, Sydney Roy Lovell and Frank Joseph Farrell were arrested at various premises and later charged with alleged bookmaking before Justices. ' Along with Johnson, .all were remanded on £IOO bail, to at New Plymouth on Wednesday. Elder will be charged at Hawera. The accused Lovell was alsoieharged with having kept an allegedjpgaming house. —(P.A.) r
