BOXING
OXLEY BEATEN. NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. At no stage of the fight for the professional light-weight title and the •'Truth” Belt, did the holder, Ted Oxley (Pahiatua) look like making a bid to retain his title against Joe Franklin (Gisborne), and he was knocked out in the sixth round.
Franklin played a wary game from the start, moving in and taking all Oxley could give. It did not make much effect, on Franklin, tending only to tire Oxley, who was floored twice in the fifth round, once for seven. At the start of the sixth round, Franklin put Oxley down with a right to the point. Oxley rose gamely a-t nine, but was done, and presented an easy target for Franklin to deliver a right hook to the ja.w to finish the light. —(P.A.I
