The annual picnic of the Ivuiripuni Methodist Sunday School will be held at tlm Solway Showgrounds on Monday next. In the Dominion croquet tournament, held this week at Lower Ilutt and Petone, Mrs Bassett, of Masterton, reached the final of the handicap singles, but was defeated by Mrs Kibblewhite in a close game, 26—24. Tlie Lord Mayor of Sydney, Aiderman Ilagon, speaking at a ireception to the English speedway riders yesterday at Sydney, announced that Ted Phelps would defend his world sculling title on the Parramatta River, Sydney, this year, against Alf. Burns.

A total deficiency of. £14,086/5/4, with assets valued at £SO, was disclosed in the bankrupt estate of Simon Edilson, of Wellington, formerly proprietor of the Grand Central Hotel, Cuba Street, who met his creditors at the office of the official assignee yesterday. Bankrupt had no offer to make to his creditors and the meeting was adjourned sine die.

The Commissioner of Taxes draws the attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day’s issue that the due date of payment of income tax is on Wednesday, Bth February, 1933. Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or before Ist March, 1933. The demands will be posted from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about 2nd February, 1933. Demands must be presented with all payments, and if a. demand has not been received the Commissioner should be communicated with.

Messrs Bell, Gully, Mackenzie and O’Leary, solicitors for Mr W. D. Lvsnar, have lodged in the Supreme Court, Gisborne, notice of appeal in respect of Air W. D. Lysnar’s action against the National Bank. Portion of the action was heard in Wellington recently, when judgment for part of the action was given by Air Justice MacGregor for the defendant bank. The balance of the action is to be tried at Gisborne later. The appeal will be heard during the Alarch sitting of the Court of Appeal.
