84TH BIRTHDAY

MR. J. GOODGAME. Mr. J. Goodgame, a well-known resident of Mauriccvillc, celebrated his 84th. birthday on Tuesday last. It was celebrated by a function given by him to the children in the Mauriceville East Hall, at which there were 130 guests. A correspondent, who was at the function, writes as follows: — “Around him were gathered the children, mothers, fathers and friends. AH love “Uncle Jim.’’ Some recalled the days, when, as boy or girl, with mug tied on, they had come to Uncle Jim’s birthday party. We were all welcome. I, who had known him but a few years and those whose knowledge of him extended over many years, and we were all proud to be his guests. Tinged with the birthday party feeling there was a feeling of sadness, which we strove to repress, Uncle Jim was so evidently happy. For him there is no regret—his life has been spent among the children —he has been their teacher, friend. For us is the thought that the span of years of this grand old man is drawing, to a close.’’
