BOWLING

RINKS TOURNEY. The annual rinks tournament, conducted under the auspices of the Wairarapa Centre in aid of the Greytown Club, was commenced at the Park greens yesterday. It was decided to play four games of sixteen heads yesterday arid two games this afternoon, commencing at 2 o ’clock. In declaring the tournament open, the centre president, Mr. H. Carter, expressed his appreciation of the large number of entries, every club in the Wairarapa being represented. On behalf of the Greytown Club, he also thanked the Park Club for its invitation to its green, as on account of the sports and other counter-attractions had the tournament been held at Greytown the attendance would probably not have been so large. .

The green was in excellent order and well maintained its reputation of being second to none in the Wairarapa. In spite of a wind which proved a trille troublesomo at times, all heads were closely contested. The various games resulted as follows. Skips only are mentioned, the teams having been already published:— Round I.—Barber beat Gibson, 10/l I ; Ivenning beat Kilgour, 23/17; Carter beat Franks, 15/13; Madsen beat Rowlands, 19/17; Hart beat Shearer, 16/14; Hunt beat Bell, 14/10; Best beat Blanc 21/18.

Round 2.—Blanc beat Kilgour, 15/11; Carter beat Madsen, 15/13; Hunt beat Shearer, 16/13; Barber beat Best, 14/12; Gibson beat Hart, 1.7/16; Kenning beat Rowlands, IS/12; Franks beat Bell, 2S/IS. Round 3.—Hunt beat Gibson, 15/14; Barber beat Shearer, 29/12; Blanc beat Franks, 21/20; Madsen beat Kilgour, 36/15; Rowlands beat Best, 30/11; Hart beat Carter, 15/13; Kenning beat Bell, 19/11.

PROGRESSIVE PAIRS. The Masterton Bowling Club played the first four rounds of a progressive pairs tournament yesterday. Baskiville and Reid were the’most successful skips, being undefeated, while of the leads, Hughes and Rose were the only two undefeated. Following is the list of skips and leads and their records: — Skips.—Baskiville, Reid, 4 wins.each; Wilkinson, Dyer, Ricketts and Perry, 3 wins, 1 loss each; Chapman, Taylor, W. Hendry, Hayne, 2 wins, 2 losses; Welch, Lett, Wright, Finlayson, Evans, A. Hendry, Henderson, Morton, 1 win, 3 losses each.

Leads. —Hughes, Rose, 4 wins each; Littlejohn, Francis, Blewitt, R. Jones, Guild, 3 wins, 1 loss each; Denbee, Thompson, Mulvey, Bannister, 2 wins, 2 losses each; Mahno, Robinson, MeCul:lougm, Turner, Heaps, 1 win, 3 losses each; Cook, Kerslalte, 4 losses each. The final two rounds of the tournament will be played this afternoon. DOMINION TOURNEY. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The Bowling Association’s annual tourney is nearing the end, only the pairs championship remaining to be decided. For to-day’s games a crowd of over a thousand assembled at the St. Albans green to watch the Walker and Deare contest for the rinks title. Walker had two lives and lost one to Deare in the morning by 24 to S, the game finishing on the 19th. head. In the play-off Walker won bv 22 to 19. The singles was won by J. Scott (Caledonian) who beat Routley, 21/17, Hincliff 21/20, and Tyrrell 22/21. In the pairs competition, games to find the green winners resulted:—Hardley beat Worslev, 25/17; Hunt beat Forster, 25/11; Deare beat Lomas, 20/1S; Shaw beat Gardiner, 26/13. In the postsectional play, Hardley beat Hunt, 26/25.—(P. A.)
