AT BRIEF INTERVALS. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Wednesday, 9.45 a.m.) SUVA, This Day. The eclipse of the sun was visible at brief intervals. There were heavy, lowlying rain clouds. INTEREST IN MASTERTON. Interest in the partial eclipse of the sun, which took place this morning, was in evidence in Masterton. Shortly after 8.30 o’clock little groups here and there were observed looking sun-wards. Bits of glass were hastily smoked so that a good view might be obtained. Full contact was maintained for two hours, the maximum phase taking place at 9.31 o’clock. A total eclipse took place at the island of Niaufou, in the South Pacific, where it was viewed by a large number of scientists.
