Their Excellencies Sir Charles and Lady Alice Eergusson, who are going to Christchurch on January 20, will go into residence at “Elmwood,” Heaton Street, which was offered to Their Excellencies by Sir Heaton Rhodes. Mr and Airs S. R. Hornabrook (Roseneatli, Wellington) are visiting Alasterton.

In the University Accountancy examinations, Mr T. A. J. Jones (Masterton) passed in bookkeeping, etc. Air A. M. Afowlcm, S.M., is indisposed, and was unable to take his seat on the Bench at Tuesday’s sitting of the Napier Court. Sister Alav, formerly matron of the Masterton Alethodist Children’s Home, is now sub-matron in a Presbyterian Girls’ Home near Alelbourne.

Airs W. Beckett, who has been resident in Victoria for the past six mouths, has improved in health, but her doctors will not permit her return to Alasterton for some time yet. The Prime Alinistcr (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. He will leave again this afternoon and will spend the holidays at his homestead at Alatakohe.

The marriage took place at the Anglican Church, Petone, last week, of Air Thomas Aletcalfe, elder son of Air and Airs J. Aletcalfe, Eketahuna, and Miss Annette Elizabeth Turner, daughter of Air and Airs I. Turner, of Alasterton.

A Sydney cable states that a cheque amounting to £11237, embodying the amount subscribed as a testimonial to the former Alinistcr of Lands in the Lang Ministry, Air Loughlin, who was defeated at the recent elections, was handed to Air Loughlin.

Air Stanley Logan Paterson, of the firm of Aleredith, Paterson and Hubble, Auckland, has been appointed a Alagistra’te. He was born in Napier and educated in Christchurch. He obtained his degree at Canterbury College, 191(5, in which year he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor. He served in the N.Z.E.E. from 191(5 to 1918.

Miss Olive Collins, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. 11. Collins, of Hatuma, 'Central Hawke’s Bay, passed away at Solway College, Masterton, recently. She was unable to return home after the school break-up owing to illness, but it was not thought that her illness was serious. The deceased girl was 15 years of age, and was widely known and very popular throughout the Waipukurau and Ilatuma districts.

Mr 11. A. Parker, the former Australian and Few Zealand tennis champion, was a passenger from Sydney to Auckland by the Aorangi, and after a short tour of the Dominion will proceed to England. It is fourteen years since Mr Parker played international and inter-State tennis. In addition to wining every Australian inter-State championship he was singles and doubles champion of Few Zealand on numerous occasions. In 1905 and in 1008 he was a member of the Australian Davis Cup team.

The death occurred in Fahiatua on Monday of Mr B. E. Richards, stationmaster at Woodvillo, aged 52 years. Deceased had been in bad health for some time past. He was educated at the Queenstown School. On leaving school he entered the Railway Service in which he has continued ever since, llis first appointment as Stationmaster was at Balfour, later he went to Port Chalmers, from which station he was transferred to Woodvillo. He was married in 1899 at Queenstown and is survived by his widow and three sons. The late Mr Richards was keenly interested in the life of \\ oodville and identified himself with all branches of sport. He was an enthusiastic bowler, and a prominent member of the Masonic Order.
