MOTOR CAR DRIVERS.
AN AGE LIMIT. SUGGESTED BY CORONER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. When returning a verdict that Alary Ellis Steams, aged 6-4 years, was accidentally drowned through her sedan car falling into the Taicri river on December 7th, the Coroner, Air Bartholomew, at the inquest this morning, commented: ‘ • This is a very sad and tragic fatality. The evidence is quite clear that the unfortunate woman lost her head. This was possibly due to her physical condition. I have had more than one inquest now where a fatality has been due to the age of the driver. I think an age limit of sixty years should be put on drivers. As motor traffic is Increasing at such a rate, it is not only in their own interests, but in the interest of the public, that an age limit should be placed on drivers. Elderly peoples’ faculties are not alert enough, and they caniTot act in emergencies.
