ALARMING EXPERIENCES. CHIMNEY'S SHAKEN DOWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CIIRISTCHU RCH, Friday. A Kaikoura message states that the earthquake, last evening, shook down the chimneys at several residences, while near Clarence bridge trees have been uprooted and cracks formed in the road from two to eight inches wide. Slips caused a blockage of traffic.on the i’uhi Puhi road, and telephonic communication with Christpliurch was interrupted at Kekerangu, halfway be-, tween Kaikoura and Blenheim. Tremors have been experienced all day, 47 being recorded up till a very late hour to-night, anil residents are camping out in the open. At Wcrodbaiik Station the family of the owner are bivouacked in a drive, persistent tremors having forced them to the eonclusioA that it is a safer spot than the house. LAND SUBSIDES. BLENHEIM, This Day. Reports from Clarence state that the chimneys are' down in all directions; The opinion of residents is that the disturbance was centred in the ocean off the const’. A mile south of Clarence a crack opened: along the Coast road and the land on the seaward side of the crack appears to have subsided. Telephones around the Clarence bridge are out of order.
