FARMERS , UNION.

By Telegraph—Press Association^ Palmerston N., Last Night.

At a meeting of the Wellington Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day returns were received from the various districts promising support towards the proposed Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Over £40,000 worth of insurance was guaranteed in Marton and lower Rangitikei districts, and £15,000 from Waverley.

The Colonial Executive of the Farmers' Union decided to circularise the whole of the branches in the colony, pointing out the attitude of the Government in refusing to carry out their promise to erect bone sterilising works for the prevention of anthrax and to urge the necessity for combined action in the matter.

A protest was also recorded against the action of the Minister for Education in withdrawing capitation for cottage gardens in the face of the strong efforts being made by the Union to further nature study and rural education for country schools.
