ILLEGITIMATE WHOLESALE BUSINESS.

How it Re-acts Prejudicially.

Conversing with an Eltham business man, he informed us (Elthan Argus) that there is a general move on the part of country traders to do all they can in the way of direct importing, and thus put business past the city wholesale man. The reason, he said, is because of the unfair practices of the wholesale traders. When the commercial travellers come into town, they will accept an order for half-a-dozen pairs of blankets, or two or three pairs of boots, from the landlord of the hotel they are staying at, and thus enter into direct competition with the people they are selling their goods to. They are even known to sell a single article at the wholesale price. ■" Can you wonder," said our informant, " that we like to send direct to England for what lines we can, in preference to giving all our business to so-called wholesale firms, who are really cutting against us in a mean, underhand way. There will soon be a general move to boycott those wholesale firms that trade on such unbusinesslike lines."
