MASTERTON DAIRY COMPANY.

• Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of shareholders of the Maaterton Co-operative Dairy Company was held in the Forosters' Hall on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. A. Eenall, chairman of Directors, presided, and there were some thirty shareholders present, including half-a-dozen from Mangamaire, in which district the Company has decided to erect a creamery. The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (which were read by the Secretary), and said he had much pleasure in doing so. Although they bad to contend with a somewhat limited supply of milk, and to face heavy initial expenses, the past year's transactions have resulted in a small credit balance being brought forward. He was sorry the profits did not enable the Directors recommending the payment of a dividend, but that was entirely due to the heavy expenditure entailed in the erection of the Eangitumau creamery. The Chairman mentioned that the past year's efforts in connection with the enterprise had been a labour of love to him and also to his co-directors, who had worked harmoniously together, and he believed earned the gratitude and respect of all suppliers. He thought that the suppliers had done their duty in almost every instance, but there were a few cases in which unsurmountable difficulties arose and prevented suppliers doing their best. The Chairman feelingly referred to the death of the late Mr W. B. Buick, one of the directors, eulogised bis efforts while on the Directorate; and he also referred in complimentary terms to the work done by Mr T. B. Chamberlain, who had left the district. Mr Benall advocated the election of district representatives on the Directorate, and thought that Mangamaire should be allowed two representatives. He proceeded to point out to dairy farmers the importance of making an effort to increase their yield, becase the plant at the local factory, with the facilities afforded, could deal with a considerably larger , quantity of milk than at present received. He prophecied that at the expiration of a' couple of years Masterton would possess one of the most up-to-date and bestpaying factories in the Colony. (Hear! Hear!) The butter manufactured by the Manager was awarded first prize at the Masterton Show, while the Home reports regarding the quality of the article were most satisfactory, it reaching practically the possible of 100 points. The butter last year also brought second best price of any manufactured in the Colony, and at the present time the outlook is more promising than it has yet been. As they all knew, a creamery had been established at Bangitumau, and the district was one of the finest in the Wairarapa; and, in addition, the "ettlers are thrifty, energetic and enterprising, which are three essential contributory factors of success. He thanked suppliers for their assistance, and also his co-directors, and manager, in helping to make the year such a successful one. Mr W. H. Buick seconded the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. The motion was carried. The Mangamaire settlers having intimated that one representative would be sufficient for them for the first year, Mr J. Goggin was declared elected. A ballot was taken for the election of three directors (there being four vacancies in all) and resulted as follows:—Messrs B. Kibblewhite (25), T. Wyeth (18), E. Wilton (17), W. H. Buick (22), E. Campbell (18). The Chairman gave his casting vote in favour of Mr Wyeth. A notice of motion was given to amend the Articles of Association in order to extend the representation on the Directorate from 7 to 8, and the meeting further agreed that the additional representative should be allotted to Mangamaire district. On the motion of Mr W. Cole a yote of thanks was accorded the staff, directors and retiring diroctors for their services during too past year.
