EXCITING INCIDENT IN AUCKLAND.
• • Arrest of a Supposed Burglar. Detective Threatened by a Man With a Revolver. Hot Pursuit and Ultimate Arrest. (By Telegraph—Press Association) Auckland, This Day. Detective Kennedy effected a clever capture at midnight on Saturday. He accosted a suspicious character in front of the premises of Buchan and Company, wholesale jewellers. The man, evidently recognising the detective, presented a revolver at the officer's head. The detective drew his own revolver, whereupon the man, retreating, called out: —" If you come near me, I'll shoot." The detective continued to approach, however, till the situation was extremely critical, when the detective heard a noise behind him. Hβ looked back to ascertain the cause, whereupon the man with the revolver bolted. The noise was caused by a second man . in Buchan's doorway. He also bolted, The detective chased and collared this man. Hβ had in his possession burglars' tools and gave the name of George Harrison, aged 31. An entrance to Buchan'e had not been effected.
