GREYTOWN NOTES.

On Saturday evening a meeting of the Martinborough Collie Club was held, and the following programme was decided upon :- Class.—Hunt away, prize .£l2 10s. Class ll.—Champion head, bring back to ring, drive through one set hurdles, £'25 and cup. Class 111. — Head, bring back and hold in ring, local in Wellington province, prize .£l2 10s. Class IV. —Driving and yarding competition, £12 10s. In Class 3 local previous 1, 2, 3 place winners capnot compete.
On Wednesday morning a very old resident of Greytown, John Byan, while in drink, attempted to commit suicide by inflicting a'severe gash in his throat with a pocket knife. Dr McCarthy and Constable Armour were soon in attendance, and he was removed to the Hospital. Drs Hector and McCarthy sewed the wound up, and the last report is that the man is doing as well as can be expected.
