ORDINARY MEETING. The Mastcrlon Borough Council met '■ Inst evening. Present His Worship the I Mayor (Mr C. A. Pownall) and Crs 0. i, E. Daniell, J. Yates, A. Mulrie, W. II Dougall, £. Feist, E. E. Chamberlain, 'i J. Hessey, and W. Perry. [ l Tho minutes of Iho previous meeting t were read and confirmed, 1 A letter was received from the Surveyor-General's department with D regard to I'ownall-street, requesting s that another plan be sent to his office. j The Clerk said the matter had been ' attended tn. i Mr J. Sillars wrote slating that he ' had, in ignoranco that he was committing n breach of the By-laws, shifted a shed ' at Iho back of his premises in Queen- ! street. He hoped that the mailer would i bo overlooked as Ihc shed was now i really in a safer position. I Crs Dougall, Perry and Daniell re- ! ported in favor of Mr Sillars' application ' which was granted. Applications for alteration to the ' Burgess Eoll were received from Messrs Dignan nnd Blythe, nnd granted. Mr F. Hales requested a delay in thp operation of the By-law requesting him i to roof certain premises in Queen-street, Maslerton, with iron, (ill he is able to visit Mastcrlon after shearing had been completed nt Flat Point. " On Ihc motion of Cr Perry Mr Hales' ■ request was agreed to. An application from the Town Lands 1 Trustees lo have ut culvert pinned in Perry-street, at the back of ihc Town Hall, was granted. Mr C. E. Daniell made application lo move the building at the corner of Church and Quecn-strccts, lately occupied by Mr A. Stempa, by drawing it along Queen-street on wheels. In reply to Ihc Mayor Mr Daniell said ho hoped to remove the buildings from one silo to another in n few hours. Permission was granted. The W.F.C.A. forwarded plans of a i powder magazine npproved by the ; Defence Department. i The Mayor said the position chosen i was about as safe as could be found. i The Council's consent was given to | tho erection, providing the Defence < Department's regulations are complied with. ' i • The Works and Finance Committee's i report was read and adopted. I The Loan Committee's report was i read and adopted showing that the I negotiations to obtain the waler loan at | Auckland had been suspended and that i application had been made totlic Colonial i Treasurer for .['20,000 for water works \ under the "Linns to Local Bodies Act I Amendment Act." i Cr Hessey moved that Mr A. 11. i Bunny's plans he approved providing c the road he proposes to make on his c property he completed to the council's I: satisfaction within twelve months from s dale. v Cr Dougall seconded and the motion was agreed to. Ii Plans of several new buildings about f to he erected in Mastcrlon were n npproved and referred to Ihc Building n Surveyor, d Tenders for fittings to the new rooms II recently added to the Institute Build- " ines were received as follows; T. J Mr Bigg's tender was accepted. ii Cr Daniell reported that he had as fi appointed, voted nt the election of ii United Charitable Aid District repre- p scntatircs. ii A vote of thanks was accorded Mr o Daniell, Ii The Mayor said he would take the 1 opportunity of thanking Councillors for their kindly treatment during his term 1< of office and for their cheerful assistance c in spite of differences of opinion. There n has been no unseemly bickering and he ri had to thank them for assisting him in p upholding the dignity of the Council. « Cr Perry said he must give Mr p Pownall credit for keeping the Council A in order. He was sorry, in a way, that p they had to part, He did not, however, n believe in' going behind a man's back n to say what ho had to say and there- ii fore ho would state plainly that—in his ri opinion—the change of occupants of the

chair would be no loss to the Borough, and lie hoped it would be no loss to llr Pownall himself. Still be was sorry to part with him and trusted to sec him back again with them some day. (Hear! Hear!) Cr Daniell said after the oldest member, perhaps a word from the youngest would not be out of place. Mr Pownall had done real good work, and he hoped he (.Mr Pownall) would be able to look forward to the successful completion of the important work ho had inaugurated, and that the day was not far distant when they might again see him at their head. (Hear! Hear!) On the motion of Cr Yates the meeting then adjourned,
