Shortly after one o’clock this morning a fire was dicovered in the Waipa Post Printing and Publishing Company’s workroom, Te Awamu'tu. The news room was completely demolished, leaving only the shell of the building before the fire brigade quelled the out-break as it must have had a good hold before the discovery. Two linotypes, a big Miehle press and - - two folding machines and other equipment of a well-appointed newspaper works were completely ruined, while one of the editorial rooms, housing a large quantity of records was aiso gutted. The thunder and lightning which passed over Auckland and the suburbs at 5.30 last evening was of a terrifying nature, especially in M.t. Eden and Edendale districts. One Mt. Eden family was startled by what appeared to be a flash of blue flame passing through the house. The lightning struck a wireless aerial on Pah Road and ran into the living room and caused consternation at the tea table. One man said the flash seemed to be followed by flying sparks. It apparently struck the ground in Wah’elki Road by a cloud of blue smdke appearing to rise. In several houses the electrical fittings were damaged The windows of several dwellings were broken and telephones were put out of use. The blue flame seem ed to run through one house, where a chair on which a girl was sitting was marked.
