LATE COMMERCIAL

AUCKLAND MARKETS. (Special to Advertiser). Auckland ,this day All the grain and produce markets are stagnant and depressed, owing solely to the arrival of excessive shipments which include numerous consignments of inferior quality goods. These depress our prices and take all the animation out of the markets.

Merchants heremust protect themselves by refusing to touch the consignments or to stop buying f.0.b., and rely on consignments to fill requirements.

The oat market is slightly firmer. Value is about 3s f.0.b., s.i., or 3s 9d ex-wharf for A Gartons.

Wheat is in good demand owing to the high price of maize. The value is 4s 8d f.0.b., s.i., or 5s 5d ex-wharf.

Chaff is in good supply. The quality of Rangitikei is much improved, the landed cost being 140 s as against 160 s for Blenheim or Canterbury. Potatoes are in over supply, but future shipments show signs of diminishing. If the Southren growers would only hold back their deliveries for a few weeks the markets would recover beyond all expectations, and the consumption is at a record height. The auction value is 6s to 6s 6d. Merchants decline to buy f.0.b., while consignments are being sacrificed. Onions are in good demand and supplies are normal. The value is 180 s ex-wharf.
