WESTLAND HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

Wednesday, July 21. The Trustees met at 7,3 C p.m. Present —Messrs Chesney (President), Clifton, Toomey, Hutchison, Baucke, Benjamin and Thompson. The Surgeon-Superintendent who was present explained several matters in connection with the hospital. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Dispenser, reporting deaths.— Received. From W. Duucan, granting permission to hold a concert in Old Men's HomeReceived. From Stafford Committee, forwarding £8 voluntary contributions and list of subscribers— -Received with thanks. From Dispenser, forwarding particulars of non-paying patients — Received. — Mr Benjamin thought that the brother of one of these patients had means and should pay a share of the account due (£l4 ss). He moved that the amount be demanded. — Mr Baucke secouded — Carried. From Kanieri Committee, forwarding £14 10s voluntary contributions — Received with thanks. From Mrs Reynolds, enclosing donation of £2 2s— Received with thanks. From Audit Department, Wellington, forwarding audited balance sheet — Received. MISCELLANEOUS Mr Baucke moved a vote of thanks be recorded to Mr Park and those ladies and others associated with ihim in the lime light entertainment^ the hospital—Seconded by Mr Thompson. Supported by all the Trustees who eulegised Mr Park's action . — Carried. . REPORTS. From Surgeon-superintendent reporting :— Remaining (a hospital on May 31st, 26 males, 4 females; admitted during June, 13 males, 2 females ; discharged cured 2:males, 2 females ; relieved 7 males 1 female ; died, 1 ; remaining in hospital 32 males, 3 females. — Received. From same forwarding list of admissions to and discharges from the hospital. — Received.

From Secretary reporting on out patients — Received.

From House Committee reporting as follows :—: —

I have the honor to report that your Committee visited the institution this day, and found everything satisfactory. The alteration to the kitchen range have been completed, and the Matron reports everything in connection therewith satisfactory. We would recommend that the kitchen receive one coat of lime, and 2 coats of paint-

On the 13th inst a patient John Sinclair was reported missing from the hospital about 9.30 at night, and although every effort has been made by the police, no trace of him can be found. We desire to point out that the disappearance of this patient is 'in no way the fault of the staff. We would recommend that the phone be again connected with t§& police station.

Mr Toomey moved that clause 3 be adopted, Mr Baucke seconded. Mr Thompson said they would have to be careful with their money. The whole building would have to be done inside and the matter could stand over till thenSpoken to by all the Board and adopted.

The President moved that the third clause be adopted with the exception of the latter part with regard to telephone connection with the police station— Mr Toomey said if the police station had been connected with the -hospital they would have known about the matter an hour sooner. — After a heated discussion Mr Benjamin moved an amendment the clause be adopted — Mr Toomey seconded — The President said if the amendment was carried he would notjhave it done. — The amendment was put and lost on division - Mr Baucke moved an amendment thatjthe Surgeon-Superintendent's opinion be obtained whether the hospital be connected with the police station— Seconded by Mr Thompson and carried — The President's motion was then put and carried.

Clause 4, Mr Toomey moved the bedsteads be procured.

The Board went into Committee and decided to procure 24 beds and 9 mattresses combined, the matter to be left in the hands of the President and Secretary.

On resuming the action of the Trustees was approved, \ the other ai tides to be procured. The report as a whole was adadopted,

It was decided to instruct the painters not to do any painting till fine weather sets in.

From Treasurer, as follows:— Receipts, £283 12s lOd ; expenditure, £194 9s 3d ; assets, £261 10s 5d ; liabilities, £193 Us 2d — Received.

The accounts for June were passed for payment subject to being found correct by the Finance Committee.

With regard to providing an extra room at the Hospital rooms for the use of the surgeon-superintendent it was resolved to leave the matter in the handsi of the Pre - sident and the House Committee to. act. The meeting then adjourned.
