Auckland, December 27. A steady rain fell all day. The first meeting of the Takapua Jockey Club took place to-day, 1500 were present. The principil events were Devenporte Cup, 72 sov3,— Nebula, 1 ; Moonstone, 2. Handicap Steeplechase, 75 soys. — Young Stidment, 1 ; Hard Times, 2. Handicap Hurdles, 25 soys.— Harkaway, 1 : Clarence was run off the hurdles by Native, and on coming round baulked. A boat containing Mr Saunders, homeopathist, his wife and sister-in-law capsized in Judge's Bay ; all saved. Young Chuvton and a son of Judge Munro, rescued Mrs Saunders in an unconscious condition.
