Catholic Tennis Tournament Begins Next Week In City
For the first time since the establishment of the New Zealand Catholic Lawn Tennis Association in 1937, Wanganui next week will be the venue of this important tennis fixture. Large entries have been received for all events, and keen competition is expected in the various contests. The tournament will open on Tuesday (Boxing Day) and will continue until January 1. An official welcome will be held in St. Joseph's Hall on Monday night at 8 p.m. The round of entertainment includes a moonlight trip up-river on Tuesday, an official dinner on Wednesday night, and a carnival ball on Thursday night. On Friday night the annual conference of the N.Z.C.L.T.A. will be held. The presentation of trophies will be held on Monday night, January 1. The team managers are:—Mr. J. B. Heagney (Auckland), Mr. B. M. Sumich (Waikato), Mr. K. L. Mahoney (Taranaki) Mr. A. F. O’Neill (Wellington), and Mr J. D. Gordon (Wanganui-Mana-watu).
