AUSTRALIAN WATER POLO TEAM HAS SOME NEW “TRICKS” FORN.Z. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night (P.A.).—New tricks in ball handling will be shown by the Australian waterpolo team for the Centennial Games. The origin of their new techniques was explained by the swimming manager (Mr. J. H. Morison), on his arrival with the players this evening. There are many “new Australians” in the Commonwealth now. They include Hungarians and Yugoslavs who are expects in water polo and New South Wales and Victorian teams were quick to seize the opportunity to learn from them. Their ball handling Is spectacular, and Mr. Morison thinks his team will have something to show New Zealanders. The Australians were to play the Canterbury team this evening, but their late arrival caused a postponement until tomorrow morning. Mr. Morison said the team appreciated this chance for a thorough work out. The breaststroke events in the Centennial Games swimming will see duels between two Australian rivals. Ron Sharpe, the last of the swimmers to arrive reached Christchurch this evening. He was third to his fellow Australian, David Hawkins in the Empire Games and is determined to turn the tables in Christchurch. Sharpe ,1s a lively exponent of the butterfly stroke. The team manager (Mr. J. H. Mnr»son) said that the nower of this had led tn its adoption h ,r most, leading Australians in the Breaststroke.
