U.S. Passes Bill To Start Atomic Defence Plans
WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 (Recd. 6 pm).—The House today passed the 3,100,000,000 Dollars Civil Defence Bill to rush preparations for defence against atomic attack in all major cities. A similar measure is before the Senate. The Bill provides for a three-year programme with the cost divided almost equally between the Federal Government and the States and cities participating. Besides helping to underwrite the cost of air raid shelters, the Federal Government will set up civil defence training schools, establish an air warning system, stockpile medical supplies, Geiger counters and disaster relief equipment.
