£l200 RAISED FOR WIDOW OF MURDERED TAXI-DRIVER
SYDNEY, Dec. 21 (Recd. 8.30 pm).— The widow of the taxi-driver who was murdered near Penruth on Sunday now has over £l2OO as a result of spontaneous gilts by citizens, When told of her husband's death, Mrs Dickson collapsed aqd later said she did not know where she and her live children would gel ✓ j next meal. The fund, started by de.ectives of the Criminal Investigation Branch, quickly swelled to £7OO with £3OO more promised, and in addition, a philanthropist, Mr E. J. Hallstrom, gave £5OO.
The State Minister of Transport has said he will issue a taxi plate in the widow’s name. Efforts will now be made by a large group of taxi drivers to buy a taxi and operate it on behalf of the widow. The drivers are keen to do this without outside help, and are confident they will raise the money quickly.
