U.S. Unions Want Controls Maintained On Food Prices And Rents
WASHINGTON, Dec. 20—Top union officials told President Truman today that food prices and rents must be controlled effectively before any move is made to stabilise wages. Union chiefs, headed by the C. 1.0. president, Mr Philip Murray, and the A.F.L. president, Mr William Green, said that compensatory wage increases must be permitted as long as food prices and rents are subject to sharp drastic because these two items toother represent 53 per cent of the average family s living costs. They added that wage stabilisation must not become wage freezing.
