MONSTER FIREWORKS DISPLAY TO HIGHLIGHT JANUARY CARNIVAL

A fireworks display bigger than any ever held in Wanganui will be the feature attraction of next month’s annual carnival. It will be prepared and supervised by Mr. John Hopkins, designer of last January's display, wh 0 is at present in Christchurch organising a £4OOO pyrotechnic display for the centennial celebrations. Describing the carnival display yesterday, the honorary organiser, Mr. W. G. Seabrook, said, “It will be a miniature Crystal Palace.’’ A donation of £lOO toward the cost of the display had been received from Chainey Bros., he said, and other firms were expected to give smaller amoun.s. Highlight of the first day of the carnival week will be a monster procession through Victoria Avenue on the afternoon of Saturday, January 20. ,The procession will end at the racecourse, where there will be many

attractions. Three local bands will play in the evening and there will be a marching display. On Anniversary Day a motor-cycle sports will be held on the Wanganui East showgrounds in the afternoon and an athletic meeting will be held on Cook's Gardens In the evening. The carnival will end on the following Saturday afternoon with a motorboat regatta at Sandy Hook. PROCESSION EXHIBITORS.
