This appeal has been signposted or. a fine old totara tree growing in the Vinegar Hill reserve in the Hunterville district. The reserve is a popular camping ground and picnic spot. The idea of signposting the totara originated with Mr S. G. Whitta i, oi Wanganui, who was a member of an Automobile Association party which recently made a tour of motor camps in this district.
The association executive at its December meeting approved the erection of the sign and complimented Mr Whittali on the original appeal to motorists to protect native forests. The association also approved a grant of £2O toward improvements to the motor camp at Raetihi.
