No “Chronicle.” There will be no publication of the “Chronicle’ ’on either Christmas or New Year’s Day. Band Parade The Wanganui senior Highland Pipe Band paraded at Aramoho Park last evening and held the attention of a fair-sized crowd with its programme. The band’s next municipal parade will be on Sunday, January 7, at Castlecliff, but the band will turn out on New Year’s Eve. Maori Jury Age The maximum age at which a Maori is qualified to serve on a Maori jury or a mixed jury where one is claimed under the Julies Act, 1908, is raised from 60 to 65 years, according to an amendment to the Maori Jury Regulations, 1927, gazetted last night Mid-summer’s Day. Ambulance Flight The Wanganui Aero Club’s Proctor was flown to Dunedin yesterday by the instructor (Mr. K, E. Fenwick) with an urgent stretcher case from Palmerston North, This is the second flight to Dunedin with a stretcher case this week, and the third medical case handled by the Procot'r in three days. Today the Proctor will carry two passe'ngers to Whangarei and pick up passengers from Auckland on the return flight. Surprise Packet Used to unusual requests, an Auckland customs officer smiled when he handled one particular Christmas parcel this week. The parcel came from New York and was addressed to an Aucklaid resident by his daughter. The customs declaration tied to the parcel bore a space for a description of the contents, but instead of the required description the space had the message: “Christmas surprise— Please don't make my father pay duty—it spoils the surprise.’’

Jelllcoe Memorial Hut.
