MacArthur Clamps Down A Strict Censorship
Resistance Strong Along The Enemy's Lines
TOKIO. December 20 (Reed. 11 p.m.).—The United Nations commander in Korea. General McArthur, today imposed censorship on all news stories, radio broadcasts, magazine articles and
photographs on the Korea war. Such censorship has been requested on a number of occasions by the British commander, on the ground that publicity was harmful to the security of the United Nations forces engaging the enemy. A message from Seoul says that United Nations forces today were in strong contact with Communist troops along a 30 mile front on the 39th. parallel north of Chungchon. The South Korean and the Second, Fifth and Eighth Divisions, attempting to improve positions on the parallel, met moderate to heavy resistance from North Korean forces. The Eighth Army reported that this was the first major clash on the Bth. Army front for three weeks. South Koreans made slight gains in a push forward north of the parallel at some points, but their attempts to advance were stubbornly resisted by
North Korean troops strongly dug in along the whole 30 mile sector. Along the Imjin river line, 30 miles north of Seoul, south Korearfs forces estimated that. 200 Communists withdrew after a two hour fight. South Korean troops also scattered a North Korean patrol after a brief skirmish on the parallel 10 miles south of Yongchon. A United States patrol eight miles south-east of Yongchon broke up small group of Communists after a brief engagement. Ward Price, correspondent of (he London "Daily Mall," reports that some divisions of the United States 10th. corps evacuated from Hungnarn have already landed in Southern Korea, where that will be available to help hold the Bth. Army’s new defensive line. He adds that evacuation of the 10th. Corps from Hungram continues under guns of a powerful Allied Fleet. f
