Christmas Goods For Dunedin Are Delayed At Auckland
AUCKLAND, Yesterday (PA).—The crew of the Union Steamship Company’s coastal freighter Waimarino refused to take the ship to sea yesterday until a refrigerator had been installed in their quarters. The vessel was due to sail for Dunedin with a cargo which included a quantity of Christmas goods. Company engineers will investigate the possibility of installing a refrigerator this afternoon. The crew has not been paid off. Company officials said this morning that, although many of the freighters carried messroom refrigerators, the installation of one in the Waimarino presented technical difficulties. The Waimarino was scheduled to sail last Saturday but watersiders would not. accept overtime. Had she sailed than, Dunedin firms would have received their Christmas goods before the week-end.
