OBITUARY

MR. h. h. McClure The death occurred at his residence hi Weka Street on Sunday of Mr. Hamilton H. McClure, a well-known and highly esteemed resident of Taihape. The late Mr. McClure came here in 1912 his first job being in the employ of Mr. C, Cuff, who conducted a carrying business. Later he was employed by McLaughlan Bros., who had a grocery business in Hautapu Street. Groceries were delivered in those days by horse and cart and this service was performed by deceased, who was a familiar and popular figure on the road. He subsequently acted in a similar capacity for F Read & (Jo. with whom he remained for a long time before advancing years and deterioration in health necessitated his retirement from hard work. For several years after he left the service of F. Read & Co. he was employed by the Majestic Cinema managertient as a doorkeeper and retained this position ulitil a few years ago, when he went into complete retirement. The late Mr McClure was a keen cribbage player and at one time was a member of the Fire Briigade team which competed in tournaments for, a handsome cup. He was also a member of the American Order of the 1.0.0. F. Lodge and he and two others carried on the lodge during the first world war years. About 20 years ago Mr. McClure underwent a serious operation in Wellington for a complaint which was due to the effects of working in the Waihi gold mines from 1900 t o 1905. Before going to Waihi he worked in _Christchurcli for “Haywards” carriers. After leaving Waihi he returned to Christchurch and remained there till he came to Taihape 39 years ago. Mr. CcClure was 76 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Messrs. Stanley (Auckland) and Roy McClure (Taihape). Two daughters died at the age of five and three years respectively. MISS HOHIPERA (BELLA) POHE. Miss Hohipera Pohe, youngest, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Pohe, of Turangaarere, died suddenly at Ruatahurra, near Rotorua, on Saturday, at the age of 23 years. Better known as “Bella ’ Pohe, deceased showed marked ability at school and decided to study for the medical profession. After two brilliant years at Canterbury University she entered the Medical School at Dunedin, where she continued her studies with a large measure of success, and had only two years to go to complete her degree. During the Medical School holidays Miss Pohe took a position as school teacher and was engaged in this capacity at Ruatahuna, 17 miles from Rotorua, when she suddenly collapsed and died. Her school closed on Friday and she intended leaving for Taihape the following day to spend, the Christmas vacation with her parents. An Autopsy was performed at Rotorua and revealed that she was a "blue baby.” Widespread sympathy will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Pohe in their sad loss, which follows two previous bereavements. MATINEE TOMORROW A spec’al matinee for children wilt be held at the Majestic Cinema at 1.45 p..m. tomorrow (Thursday), when "Frances, the Talking Mule,” will be presented.
