Syngman Rhee Defends Political Executions
SEOUL, Dec. 18—The South Korean president, Dr. Syngman Rhee, today defended the executions of men and women political prisoners which had been revolting to British and American troops. Dr. Rhee said: “We have to take measures. All sentences were passed after due process of law. There is a war on and we have to kill some of our enemy. If you resent that don't know why. We are not guilty of manslaughter or of wholesale murder.” Dr. Rhee added, however, that he would review all death sentences passed by military and civilian authorities.
