Egyptian-British Talks Said To Be Making Progress

LONDON, Dec 19 (Recd 1040 pm).—Speaking in the Egyptian Chamber of Deputies, the acting Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Farag Bey. said that talks in London between the Egyptian Foreign Minister. Salah el Din Bey, and the British Foreign Secretary, Mr Bevin, were “making strides” and had reached a decisive stage. “We will soon know the details, but in the public interest nothing can be revealed because of the particular stage the discussions have reached,' he said. “Our country is prepared to take part in the maintenance of peace to defend ourselves and carryout international obligations under the ■ United Nations Charter. That is what our Foreign Minister is working for in London." Meanwhile, the Wafdist Press continues its anti-British campaign. An article in “El Nida" says: “It is cam-1 mon knowledge that in the event of a Third World war the existence of British forces in the Suez canal zone will induce the Soviet bloc to attack Egypt, where as if there were no British trops there Russia, would no such justification. But this argument seems valueless in British and AmeriEritish troops there Russia would have no such junstification. But this argument seems valueless in British and American eyes." (Special N.Z.P.A.
