MARTON, Last Night (SR).—After 12 years’ service as Awarua Riding representative on the Rangitikei County Council, Mr. V. Smith *Ta.Ihape) was elected charman at the [ annual meeting today. He succeeds Mr K. W. Dalrymple, who was de-

feated at the recent elections. Mr. Smith was nominated by Cr. A. S. Coleman, seconded by Cr. A. D. Mair, and was elected unopposed. “It is an honour to be elected chairman of the Rangitikei County, which is one of the largest and most important in New Zealand,” said Mr. Smith. “I reai.se, however, that it will be a difficult job following Mr. Dalrymple after his long term of office. He was a good chairman who conducted his ; meetings firmly.
