Wanganui Competitions Fixed For August; Annual Meeting Soon

Because dates in May clash considerably with other competitions socistic-, and because the Wanganui Musical and Dramatic Society intends to s.u ;e “Wild Violets” in that month, the executive of th? Wanganui Competitions Society has decided to hold its annual festival in August, next year, during the second week of the school holidays. The annual meeting of the society is to be held on December 19, at which th? executive will report on the recent successful revival festival, and indicate plans on which it considers the next festival should be run. To coincide with an annual festival in Augi st, it is intended to ask the annual meeting to permit the rules to be amended so as to start, the financial year on October 1 and end it each September 30. It was reported that three winners of scholarships at the revival festival had not applied to uplift the amounts standing to their credit in the society’s accounts —approximately £26. It was. decided to write to the three campetiters concerned asking them to nominate the teachers to which they desired th-1 the amounts be paid. A panel of judges in vocal, instrurr/ 1 :t 1, elocution ar.d dancing classes was before the meeting, and recommendations were made as to appointment of judges for the next festival. Th? question of filling the vacant -i ; ■ iii cc ■ ary was discussed at length and a sub-committee was set up to go into the matter and report. Mr E. Lind, the president, presided over Mesdames E. Giberd, J. Chesswas and Olive Tarrant end Miss E. Warnock, Messrs G. E. Tarrant. W. G. Seabrook, A. Tong, J. Carr, J. A. Shenks, D. G. Strachan and L. M. Dallas.
