FEILDING CANDIDATES WORK WELL AT AWAPUNI

PALMERSTON N., Last Night (Special).—Mission, Imperial and Earldale, three Awapuni horses engaged in the St. Andrews Handicap at Feildlng on Saturday, took part in feature gallops at Awapuni this morning. It is of interest to note that in all ten of the 24 horses listed for this event, the main race on the concluding day of the meeting, are quartered at Awapuni. All the fast work took place on the trial grass, where the going was better than for some weeks.

Imperial (G. R. Tattersail) and Mission (W. L. Aitken) worked splendidly over a mile and were still going on with it after running the full distance in 1.43 4-5. They were given time to settle down, but they were travelling fast at the end of a furlong. They ran the first five in 1.5 and six in 1.17 1-5, and were home in 38 4-5, the last six in 1.17 1-5. Earldale (J. G. Dulieu), Gay Gordon (W. Aitken) and Terrific <B. Wood) began smoothly and the pace was not on until they reached the six. From that peg they were home in 1.16 4-5 to complete the mile In 1.44 3-5. They ran the last five in 1.4 and three in 38, and Gay Gordon finished well to be on terms with Earldale at the post. Terrific was on the outer and after trailing the other* early he joined Earldale for the run home.

Hunting Fort (D. Harris) and Despot (B. Wood) worked early and ran five in 1.4 1-5, the last three In 37 3-5 without being under pressure. Princess Maud (L. Hodren) and Dakar Reign (Cooksley) sprinted halt a mile in 52 3-5. They worked well. Chip (J. T. Shaw) and Angell (Tattersail) ran their five In 1.4 4-5 without being ridden out over the last three in 39 3-5. The Gold Nlb-Aiethea colt Aureomycin (W. J. Broughton) drew away from Miss Wynyard (Hodren) In a fine gallop over half a mile In 49 3-5. He finished smoothly after running the last three in 37.

Hy-Spin (Tattersall) and Miss Pollyanna (J. Carter) ran their halfmile in 50 1-5, the last three in 37 2-5. Meteorina (Whitti) worked once round but was never at top. She ran the last five in 1.7. Jinx (R. D. Samson), Garno (Dulieu) and Jubilation (Furlan) sprinted half a mile in 51 3-5, the last three In 37 2-5. Waiomoko (M. Andrews) gave them a start and was with them at the finish.

Eulogette (J. Harris) led always in a mile gallop with Klppo (Tattersall) running the last seven In 1.34 1-5. Britovite (A. Midwood) and Sir Rhodes worked once round *lth the pace steady at over 15 to the furlong. A good gallop was that of Hobo (R. W. McCullough) and Wembley (Aitken). They ran seven in 1.32 2-5. breaking 40 for the last three. Hunting Scholar (Broughton) and Clever Boy (J. Harris) were home in 39 to cover five in 1.6 2-5, and Chic (Tattersall) was home from the three in 39 2-5.

Wessex (Broughton) went alone over a mile, travelling fast to run the first five in 1.4 3-5. He was not under pressure at the finish, but he ran the mile in 1.44 4-5, which was really good.
