Flooding In Thames And Coromandel Areas

THAMES, Last Night (PA),—The Thames and Coromandel districts have suffered much damage from the last 48 hours of continuous rain. The Kauaeranga River at Thames overflowed its banks, covering the racecourse, the Rugby Union and abattoir paddocks to a depth of several feet. It is estimated about 100 sheep were drowned. All transport and bus services on the main highway and railway near the town are held up. Water entered a number of houses in the Parawai area. Traffic was blocked on nearly all the main highways in the Coromandel district. At Thames, two large fishing launches broke from moorings and are now being rescued. Tlie weather improved this afternoon.
