COMMUNISTS TAKE HIDING IN WEST GERMAN ELECTION

LONDON, Nov 20 (Recd 7.30 pm)— The West German Socialists, who made oppositian to German reanmament their major campaign issue yesterday, won the provincial Parliamentary elections in lhe American zone States of Hesse and Wurttemberg Baden.

The West German chancellor, Dr. i Adenauer’s Christian Democratic Party lost the Parliamentary edge to the Socialists in Baden, and slipped from second to third place in Hesse, where the Socialists won a clear majority. The Communists took the worst beating since the war. failing to win a seat in either parliament, though they had held 10 in each since the last elections four years ago. The victory of the Socialists was interpreted as an indication of the stiffening resistance to the readiness of Dr. Adenauer’:; party to rearm and an expre - ssion of public dissatisfaction with the “free market ’ economy of Dr. Adenauer's federal government.
