M.P. For Otaki Is A Gracie Fields Fan
PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Nov, 'JI, (PA).—“I love harmony,” said Mr. Maher (Govt., Otaki) in the House of Representatives tonight, when debating the vote for the Broadcasting Service. “I love to hear Gracie Fields singing the Holy City. She can get on to those high notes, but she excels herself when she sings ‘Walter, Take me to the Altar!' ” When the members laughter subsided, Mr. Maher said he did not mean to refer to the member for Hutt. “What the people want are fewer words with more meaning not a lot of padding,” said Mr. Maher.
