Some Time May Elapse Before Drill Hall Is Removed To New Site

,The proposed exchange between the W anganui City Council and the Army Department of the Drill Hall site In Mana Place for the Bluegum Plantation, near the prison reserve, was the subject of a further letter from the Ministry of Works, which advised the council at its monthly meeting last night that the Army authorities may not be able to remove the buildings from tile Drill Hall site within the two years specified by the council, and that a period of five years may be necessary. The Ministry of Works also advised that the Army Department may wish to make a start on the provision of facilities at the Bluegum Plantation prior to the erection of a new training hall and the removal of the present Drill Hall, and desired the right to do so. The Army wished to know if the council would agree to the exchange, subject to the conditions that the Crown would remove the buildings from the present Drill Hall site within a period of live years, and that entry may be made on to the Bluegum Plantation site for the provision of facilities at any time within the period of five years without the payment of rent If the council would agree to these conditions it was believed that the proposed exchange could be arranged. On the motion of the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., the council decided to agree to the basis of the exchange, but the Army authorities-will be asked to remove the Drill Hall from the Maria Place site as quickly as possible.
