NOTED BULL BOUGHT BY MR. SNODGRASS, OF MATAPARA

Mr. H. Snodgrass of Matapara To Awamutu, has purchased the rising two-year-old Belted Galloway bull, “Mount Linton 5.” bred-by Mr. N. McGregor, Ohai, Southland. Imported in utero. “Mount Linton 5” is by "Scatwell Peter’’ from the imported cow "Knockbrex Welcome." Mr McGregor founded his Belted Galloway stud in 1948 when he imported five in-calf heifers from Scotland, these being “Boreland Unique," "Boreland Una," /Boreland Ursula" and * ‘Boreland Utopia," all of which were bred by Mr. J. F. Sproat. Boreland of Anwoth, Castle Douglas, and "Knockbrex Welcome" bred by Mr Douglas Brown, Borgue. The four “Boreland" heifers were in calf to "Mark Norma;" and the “Knockbrex" heifer was i|i calf to "Scatwell Peter." The five heifers dropped bull calves to these matings. Mr. McGregor offered one of these bulls at the first National Beef Breeders’ Sale, which Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. conducted at Feilding on September 20. This bull, "Mount Linton Moss,” by "Mark Norman” ' from "Boreland Ursula" fell to a b : d of 530gns from Mr lan Higgie, Okoia. Wanganui, Mr. Snodgrass being the under bidder. The auctioneers arrang- 1 ed the private sale of “Mount Linton 5" to Mr. Snodgrass after the sale. Mr E. Hislop, of Wanganui, secured two Belted Galloway cross Shorthorn steers and he intends to prepare these for the chilled beef competition.
